Put In - Hammocks Beach State Park. Very nice kayak launch pier about 50 yards from the parking lot.
Distance/Time - 6.4 miles/2 1/2 hours
Difficulty - The wind was blowing pretty good against us on the way out, but coming back we had it to our backs.
Trip Directions - The park office/Visitor Center has a map of the kayak trail. Not as well marked on the way out using the ferry markers on Cow channel, but coming back from Bear Island Lagoon it is well mark with orange/white stakes. The tide was out so we were only able to paddle to the first campsite in the lagoon area. At high tide you can paddle all the way in, couple hundred yards or so.
Scenery - Sound side wildlife in many kinds of birds. Saw a dolphin moving through the channel from the dock towards Bogue Sound. Lots of marsh grass with channels in and out.
Hazards - Wind.
