Put In - Located at the Hickory Hills boat ramp. The put in is to the right of the boat ramps near a small dirt beach . Parking is in the area parking lot. Unload to the right of the boat ramps and then park up in the parking lot.
Distance/Time - 5 miles/3.5 hours
Difficulty - Above Average
Trip Directions - Head north from the boat ramp towards the Interstate 85 bridge. After going under the bridge head left and do not go to outside of the long dirt ledge. An opening is between the ledge lets you pass. This looks to be the old road formation that has eroded into a long ledge. You can see old concrete ties and such.
Scenery - The trip north from the boat ramp is very noisy because of Interstate 85 traffic. This makes the trip an urban trip as you can see roads, trains, and airplanes from the small airport near by. The objective for this trip was to make it up Ellerbee creek. However, the creek was blocked by many tree logs jammed against the railroad trestle. There is a magnificent Eagle Nest on the power pole as you cross under the 85 bridge. Also, the area is quite shallow in places which allow for many birds feeding or roasting in small tree limbs sticking out of the water.
Hazards - Shallow water.
