Put In - Located in Holly Point State Park on New Light Road. Take Six Forks to 98 and cross 98 which becomes New Light Road. Stay on New Light Road until you see the park on the right. Shinleaf park you will pass on the way on the right. I camped in site 124, which is the right hand side loop of the park near the water. Lake side campsites go fast, have to be there by later afternoon Friday to get one. I did notice some people just park their car or put a tent in the campsite and then leave when the park closes. There is a left side loop also, both sides have a swimming area. Cost is 15 dollars for a non-electric/water site.

Trip Directions - I had two long trips and one short trip at night after dinner. The first trip is from the campsite going right. Not much to see but boats, fishing along New Light Road and a nice beach. There is an old bridge abutment near the New Light bridge that I hit straight on, just below the surface. The evening paddle was just close to the campsite and was nice and peaceful. The next day I headed left from the campsite and explored a large part of the lake, which includes an eagle's nest, various nice spurs, and B.W. Wells park. Found an old road into an open area that I will come back to explore again. Also, discovered an old access road straight across from the park that I think leads to the Shinleaf area.
Scenery - lots of birds, eagles, people.
Hazards - Old bridge abutment near the New Light bridge.
