Put In -
Located
at the Highway 50 Boat Ramp on Creedmoor Road. The lake is 3+ feet over
full pool(251.5). I originally was going to paddle the Neuse River at
the Buffalo Road City put in, but when I arrived the river was running so
fast it would have been to dangerous. I was going to paddle upstream
and then coast back, but the currents looked very tricky. The Corps of
Engineers is dumping water as fast as they can to bring the lake back down.
All lakes in the area are above full pool at this point.

Trip
Directions - This was the first paddle since December and the wind forecast
was going to be high. So, I just stayed close to the shore line
heading north and then did further hiking on the numerous trails that exist
in this area. Also on the other side of Hwy 50 is Lawrence Cemetery
and Beaverdam bike trails. On the way back the wind was vicious, but I
got a good workout. I am still struggling with right arm
tennis/mouse/kayak elbow. I wore a
Cho-Pat Tennis Elbow Splint. It seemed to help.

Scenery -
I did some hiking north of Lawrence Cemetery and found two old foundations.
Not much wildlife yet, but it was quite warm. I thought ticks would
not be out yet, but picked up one on the hike. This area
is covered in trails, used by mountain bikers.
