Distance/Time - 11.8 miles/5 1/2 hours
Difficulty - Difficult
Lake Level - 253ft.
Trip Directions - Hurricane Ida added 5 1/2 feet to the lake in a three day period. It was a tropical storm when it arrived and then stalled on the coast. It was a really nice soaking rain and it brought the lake back to full pool, which makes paddling much more enjoyable. I arrived around 8:30am and the whole lake was socked in with fog. It made it a really eerie paddle along with all the spider webs which had dew on them. It seems this is the period of time when the spiders were making webs to the max as during the trip back a slight breeze cause hundreds of webs to float in the air carrying spiders to new destinations. The boat, dog, and myself were covered in them. I made the standard Eno loop up to Knap of Reeds creek. I was able to get further up the creek, but still got stopped by downed trees.
Scenery - Lots of wildlife in the fog. It was interesting to see in such low visibility. Egrets, turtles, lots of ducks, birds. Ran into two hunters who bagged a deer, which was not nice since it was Sunday. When I arrived back at the boat ramp it was packed with kayakers. It was a busy day on the lake. I wish the Corp. of Engineers would hold the lake level a little high for a bit, but I am sure the draw down is going to start soon.
Hazards - Spiders and webs.
