Trip Directions - Hurricane Ida added 5 1/2 feet to the lake in a three day period. I had done the Eno river side of the lake the previous day, so decided to go to the dam side and paddle towards the Raleigh water intake structure north of the dam. Just made a nice easy loop hitting all the coves. The water at this end of the lake was quite clear and not muddy. Would be interesting to know how the water backs up in the lake or flows forward when such a large amount is added by a storm. I also went down to the dam tailrace to watch the release, as the Corp. of Engineers had the dam wide open. Three kayakers were surfing the standing waves.
Scenery - Very quiet day, one egret moving around the lake with me. A few turtles and geese. The weather was so fine...
Hazards - None.
