Put In - Located at the Upper Barton Creek boat ramp on Six Forks Road. Put in on the right side of the boat ramps. The dog is starting to not be able to take the heat during the day as well as she used to. So, decided at work around 2PM to head home a little early and do a night run. This ended up being a really nice trip. And at night I get Jiffy Pop!
Distance/Time - 7.6 miles/3 hours 40 minutes
Difficulty - Difficult because of a night paddle
Trip Directions - I decided to head to the B.W. Wells group campsite boat ramp. The dog had a bad fall into a rainwater runoff grate, which I should have seen coming on our hike. Visited the old stomping grounds group campsite that we used to use for Cub Scouts.
Scenery - Osprey nest near Blue Jay Point was active.
Hazards - Motor boats everywhere, be careful. On the way out I decided to cut north at the small channel that happens prior to opening up into the main lake. Well, I got boxed in by two jet skiers and then a boat speeding by trying to pass the jet skiers and did not see me till the last minute. It was my closest encounter yet with a power boat. At first I thought I was at fault, but the power boater took the heat and apologized.
