Put In - The gate has now been locked, a new park is going to be developed in this area. See Falls Lake - Lowery Creek for another put in very close to this one. Located on the Old 98 road after it dead ends at a gate owned by Falls Lake State Park. The gate is not locked, so can be opened to drive down to the Put In, about 1/2 mile drive on the old section. A few drop offs on the road due to erosion and debris. The Put In is very close and flat next to the parking area. Take Falls of Neuse road north till it stops at the Exxon station, turn left and follow the road to the gate.
Distance/Time - 5.5miles/4 hours/Avg. Speed 2.7MPH
Difficulty - Average. Drive to the Put In hazardous.
Trip Directions - Two spurs exist from the Put In, left goes to the Old 98 connector road, right heads up to another section. Both hit 98.
Scenery - Lots of turtles, beavers, and herons. Took two hikes up the connector Old 98 and from the lunch stop up to a subdivision. On the right spur you can paddle under 98, kind of eerie but fun.
Hazards - Poison Ivy all over the two hiking trails. Going to go get some Poison Ivy soap for next time.
