Falls Lake - Perseids
Put In - Located at the Upper Barton Creek boat ramp on Six Forks Road. Put in on the right side of the boat ramps. Another run at night to watch the Perseids shower with a couple of guys from work. This was also my first trip with the Cash for Clunkers car(2009 Honda CRV) I got for trading in my clunker(1998 Ford Windstar). I ended up with a really nice new Thule Slipstream for hauling the kayak. I did use Yakima landing pads as they allowed the whole rack to be removed easily.
Distance/Time - 6 miles/2 hours 30 minutes
Difficulty - Difficult because of a night paddle.
Trip Directions - We first headed west under the bridge and took a short paddle down to the zip line and the back for the last paddlers to arrive around 9PM. The we all headed towards Highway 98 bridge to get a good view of the south east for the meteoroid shower. A little cloudy, so we only thought we saw some streaks, but it was a very calm flat water night.
Scenery - Not much wildlife to be seen or heard. No frogs or evening sounds at all. Maybe they all were looking for the Perseids shower also.
Hazards - Since it was a slightly cloudy and rainy night, hardly a motor boat in sight.
