Falls Lake - Possum Track Road
Put In - Located on Possum Track Road at the Falls Lake Trail head to Neuse Bend Point. There are two access points on either the east or west side of the bridge. The Yahoo Fallspaddlers group found the west side as a better access point. I did the east side on this trip as it was my first. Follow the concrete gutter down till it ends and then turn right on the trail. I put in at the closet point that looked flat. A large downed tree blocks the way at the end of the concrete gutter.
Distance/Time - 5.4miles/2.5 hours/Avg. Speed 2.1MPH
Difficulty - Average. Put In a little messy at the end.
Trip Directions - Head straight out from the road overpass.
Scenery - Lots of fishermen on the banks. Loads of turtles and a few geese. Found a trail head that follows the Old 98 Road to another nice Put In that is off of Old 98. Trip was a mix of paddling and hiking along the Old 98 Road. You can see the old unpaved road bed, old homesteads now grown over, and various signs of humanity long gone. Next trip will use the second Put In found on the hike.
Hazards - Lots of motor boats in this area of the lake.
