Falls Lake - Purnell Road Trip
Put In(s) - Located on Purnell Road where the road crosses Falls Lake. You can put in on either side of the road. Parking is on either side also. The south side put in requires navigating down a rustic path, stay high on the hill. The put in is close to the bridge side. The second put in is on the north side of the road an there is an old rocky eroded road down to the water. Have to be careful of ankle twists.
Distance/Time - 2.25 miles/1.5 hours
Difficulty - Above Average
Trip Directions - From the put in, head north. On the left when you can see the lake open up to the right, is a bench and grassy area where you can eat lunch. I was new at launching a kayak from a bank and flipped sliding in from the high bank. Trapped the dog in the front cockpit, but the water is only waist deep, so was able to right the kayak quickly and free her. Learned a lesson on this one.
Scenery - Very nice quiet trip with lots of birds and wildlife. At the end of the lake to the right, many beaver dams to content with. Interesting paths are all through this area where the creek feeds the lake.
Hazards - Basically low water near the beaver dams at the end of the lake.
