Falls Lake - Upper Barton Creek II Trip
Put In - Located at the Upper Barton Creek boat ramp on Six Forks Road. Put in on the right side of the boat ramps.
Distance/Time - 5.9miles/4 hours
Difficulty - Difficult because of a night paddle
Trip Directions - This was a full moon trip so was on the lake about 7PM to wait for moon rise at 8:21pm. The moon really did not show itself till around 9PM. Head left or east towards Blue Jay Point. First time as a night paddle. Was a lot of fun, especially in the calm area west of the put in after going under the Six Forks bridge. Ran into a group from Get Outdoors on a full moon paddle, they had 7 kayaks going out. Also, ran into a kayaker with one of those million watt flashlights who would all of a sudden shine the light on the banks looking for wildlife I guess. Was kind of strange, he did this so much he must have had a car battery in the boat. Also, hiked into Blue Jay Point.
Scenery - Real nice Osprey nest near Blue Jay Point. Man made stand. They were very protective of the nest.
Hazards - Motor boats everywhere, be careful. Was at night so made sure I had my flashing red lamp on the back of the boat, and a head lamp that I could turn on when boats appeared. Boats continued for about a half hour after dark and then stopped.
