Falls Lake - Raven Ridge Road to Dam Trip
Put In - Located on Raven Ridge Road at the Falls Lake Trail head. Just at the top of the hill from the road, look left for a small path down to the water to the right of the road. There is a nice flat area near a tree with a Wildlife sign posted. Watch out for the sticker bushes on the way in and the uneven terrain.
Distance/Time - 3.8 miles/3 hours
Difficulty - Above Average based on hike to Put In.
Trip Directions - Head straight out from the road overpass.
Scenery - Ranges from homes near the lake to water inlet pipes for the Raleigh water to the actual dam. Also, on a windy day you can see standing waves generated from the large straight dam. They form about 100 yards out. A new kayak/canoe boat launch is in the works to the left of the picnic area. You can also take a nice walk along the dam and head down to the spill way. Paddle Creek is also located near the spillway. They specialize in kayaks and river running gear.
Hazards - Dam area is roped off limits around the spill way intake.
