Harris Lake - Buckhorn Creek Trip
Put In - From intersection of NC42 and SR1916 (Corinth Rd), take NC42 East 2.0 miles. Turn left on SR1912 (Christian Chapel Road). Continue 0.5mi and turn right onto Cross Point Rd and follow into area.
Distance/Time - 10.4 miles/4 hours
Difficulty - Average
Trip Directions - From the put in, I headed north to Buckhorn Creek, which is the spur of the lake that goes past the nuclear reactor. The part of the lake becomes inaccessible as Progress Energy denies access to this area. This is the part of the lake you can see from US 1 that looks real nice to paddle.
Scenery - Lots of birds; herons, egrets, eagles, ducks, etc. Two nice trails from access roads allow you to travel all over these parts of the woods. Hunting season was in but it was Sunday so felt kinda safe, but you never know.
Hazards - Hydrilla along most of the shore line.
