Put In - Located near the the Car Top boat launch. The actual Car Top boat launch is basically in a swamp and very hard to get out of. It is much easier to walk from the parking area near the boat launch on the asphalt trail past the picnic area and then cut into a grassy path that leads down to a nice open grass area near the power line poles.
Distance/Time - 5.4 miles/3 hours
Difficulty - Average
Trip Directions - From the put in, head right towards the peninsula. Go around the peninsula and head north towards the power plant. Do not attempt to cross any restricted area. Stop at the floating warning sign. I stopped at the evacuation siren just after you come across the Buckhorn Disc Golf Course. I ate lunch at the siren and then hiked along the course back to the parking lot.
Scenery - Nice park setting and open views. The Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant is an interesting view as you paddle along. Not much wildlife.
Hazards - Hydrylla is located all along the banks and is basically a nuisance. I tried to stay clear of it, the deeper the water the less of it. Watch out for boats. Also, discovered various fire ant mounds along the banks. The park has signs warning you about them.
