Harris Lake - Little White Oak Crk Trip
Put In - Beginning from the junction of US 1 and SR 1127 (New Hill Holleman Road) 6.1 miles south of NC 55 on US 1, travel SR 1127 south 4.0 miles to SR 1130 ( Bartley Holleman Road). Turn right onto SR 1130 and travel 2.0 miles to area access road..
Distance/Time - 6.7 miles/3 hours
Difficulty - Above Average because of wind
Trip Directions - From the put in, I headed towards Little White Oak Creek, which is on the north side of Harris Lake County Park. Was able to navigate to a line of beaver dams as the hydrilla had died back. This area of the lake on the park side shoreline has posted no hunting signs. During the day I heard a few gun shots and assumed them to be duck hunters.
Scenery - Very chilly day with wind from the SW at 15 MPH. I was very careful to stay close to shore and used the PFD on the dog on the last leg back across to the boat ramp as the chop was high because of the wind. Water was not as cold as other lakes in the area as the nuclear power plant keeps the temperature up, but you still have to be cautious.
Hazards - Wind.
