Jordan Lake - Cub Creek II Trip
Put In - Farrington boat ramp, take the left Y after you enter the area and this will take you to a smaller boat ramp with kayak launching areas on both sides of the two ramps. These areas have nice walkways and a sand beach for launching. Directions from US 64, take Farrington Road (1008) north 4.4 miles to the bridge over Jordan Lake.
Distance/Time - 6.9 miles/3 hours
Difficulty - Average
Trip Directions - Head east to the US 64 bridge and then stay on the left shoreline after going under the bridge. An island is to your left after you go under the bridge. Follow the left side of the lake till Cub Creek. I ran into two gentlemen kayaking two Pungo's 140. Good old boats...
Scenery - Very scenic area for birds. Many egrets or herons, osprey, beaver, and an eagle. The totally missed the access road at Cub Creek that lets you take a very nice hike around the peninsula that separates Cub Creek and Morgan Creek. On the way back I was against the wind as usual and the bugs(gnats) were real bad as they were being blow upwind. Had a bat bothering me also going after the bugs near my stern light when I reached calmer waters. That was a strange experience.
Hazards - Water level normal, 216 ft. I did have a close call in that I decided to use the boat ramp to unload at the end of the trip, I headed up to the car with my stuff and a truck roared in and decided to unload his boat on the same ramp as where my kayak was sitting. If it was not for a nice lady nearby on the sandy beach who yelled out to the driver, my kayak would have been toast.
