Jordan Lake - Stinking Creek Trip
Put In - The Roberson Creek boat launch is just below the last rapids on the Haw River as it flows into Jordan Lake. To get there, drive west across the lake (toward Pittsboro) on Hwy. 64. Six miles west of Wilsonville (64 and 1008 stoplight) you'll cross the Haw River. At 0.9 mile after the Haw, turn left on SR 1944 (Dee Farrell Road). It will shortly dead end into SR 1943; turn left on SR 1943. After 3.0 mile of traveling southeast on SR 1943, look for Roberson Creek boat ramps on SR 1943.
Distance/Time -9.9 miles/4 hours
Difficulty - Moderate
Trip Directions - Head out from the boat ramp and head south when you enter the main lake channel. I stayed on the right side of the lake. Coming back I crossed the large open part of the lake and found a second access road that was a good hike. Encountered a nice old homestead.
Scenery - Lots of egrets, and birds. Had an eagle take off when I rounded a bend and it failed to get altitude and plunked into the drink. Eagles can swim well as it swam quickly back to shore. Looking at it on shore, some of its feathers seemed old and stripped.
Hazards - Motor boats
