Jordan Lake - White Oak Creek Trip
Put In - Camped at Crosswinds Campground at site 35B. Here are the directions. To reach Crosswinds Campground traveling west on US 64, turn right (north) onto Farrington Road/SR 1008. This intersection, with two gas stations across from each other, is called Wilsonville. The Crosswinds Campground entrance is a half mile on the right. To reach the campground traveling east on US 64, turn left onto Farrington Road at the first traffic light after the lake at the Wilsonville intersection. The Crosswinds Campground entrance is a half mile on the right. The campgrounds is broken into three sections(A, B, C). The A section is the cheapest, group water and electric, but I could not find a site that was relatively close to the water. Most water sites in B and C are dual campsites and have electric and water, thus the costs are twice a single site. Campsite 35B was a single site with a nice trail across the road down to the water.
Distance/Time - 3 trips, 4 mile afternoon trip around the area. Campsite is named Crosswinds for a reason, the wind is strong most of the time during the day. Especially after going under the bridge towards Crosswinds marina, the paddling was rough. Looks like the marina even has a swell breaker in the lake to help boats coming in to dock. The second trip was at night with a full moon, very calm and stopped at a very popular fishing pier. Saw many fisherman with the 'new' lighted bobber on their fishing line. The 3rd trip was up White Oak Creek. Never made it to the end as the largest beaver dam I have ever seen stretched along the upper part of the creek. Next time I am going to portage around it. Found an access road to a very old abandoned community. I think the largest building was the church.
Difficulty - Above Average, because of the wind.
Trip Directions - 1st trip was a straight shot to the Crosswinds marina. Did find a nice creek you can go up near the campsite. The 2nd trip was a large loop in the open water straight out from the campsite to watch the moon rise. The 3rd was straight out the right hand side of the lake towards White Oak Creek. Very popular fishing area here.
Hazards - Wind.
