Put In - From Raleigh, Buffalo Park (Campsite 7) is a nice drive up Highway 50 to Creedmoor and then take Highway 15 north through Oxford. Highway 15 intersects with Highway 58 west to Buffalo Springs Road. Signs to the park mark the way.
Distance/Time - 3 trips, trip 1 up Buffalo Creek, 7.3 miles, 2nd trip - 3.4 miles at night, 3rd a morning trip to Staunton River State Park - 10.3 miles.
Difficulty - Above Average, because of the wind.
Trip Directions - The trip to Staunton River State Park was the most enjoyable. The park is picture perfect, I think this is the oldest Virginia State Park. You will be paddling on large open sections of Kerr lake and thus the wind is always a factor. I lucked out and the wind died on the trip back, but it was hot. The dog took residence in the front of my feet in the kayak. Had to be careful on the first trip as thunderstorms popped up and I had to make a bee line back to camp. I called home for a weather report and was told a big band of thunderstorms were on the way. I took a drive into Clarksville till the storms passed. It cooled off and the night and sleeping were really nice. I ended up with the best campsite(7) for kayaking, it was shaded and close to the shore. I had the whole tent camping area to my self on Monday. Next trip to this area will be to camp at Staunton River State Park and then can explore both the Staunton and Dan rivers that converge here.
Hazards - Wind.
