Put In - I took Highway 1 up to Henderson and exited to Highway 39 north. The GPS was totally lost and kept wanting to take me up Highway 50 to Oxford and then Highway 15 to cut over to Ivy Hill. I knew Highway 39 was the best way, but it never gave up until I was on Highway 39. Google Maps got it right, however. On the way back I was at the T in the road from the park and ask the GPS to 'Go Home', it went into a loop and never could calculate the route. I then turned left onto Highway 39 south and it then did the route, but unknown to me it then locked up. Halfway home when it said I was still over an hour out I noticed it was stuck on Highway 39. A reboot fixed it, but strange.
Distance/Time - 12.5 miles/5 hours
Difficulty - Average
Trip Directions - Headed north from the boat ramp towards Panhandle Creek. This whole area is the Occoneechee Wildlife Management Area, so no homes are allowed.
Scenery - Was on the water by 7:30AM and headed straight for Panhandle Creek. It started out with no wind and hot, but then clouded up and a few showers passed by. This made it a very nice paddle, the dog was happy. We had not been paddling in the rain lately, so she seemed confused on what was happening, getting wet. Saw an osprey, egrets, ducks, and a nice owl at the end of Panhandle Creek. On the way back I explored the area around the boat ramp. Will be back as lots of areas I have not paddled yet.
Hazards - Motor boats.
