Kerr Lake - Kimball Point Trip
Put In - Campsite 74, located at the end of Lee - Jacksontown - Drewry Road after taking exit 220 on I-85. From Raleigh, this is a straight shot up US-1 and then to I-85. Kimball Point is a NC State Park and a non-electric campsite is 15 dollars. The non-electric sites were closed till May 19, I stayed in an electric site, and no one ever ask me for a camping fee. A ranger made a patrol at dinner time and never stopped. Not sure what is going on other than the season has not started yet. The next day I decided to try the Roanoke River at US 1 since I had been on the lower end a weekend prior.
Distance/Time - 2 trips, trip 1 up Dix Branch, 8.6 miles, 2nd trip - 3.4 miles at night, took some nice sunset pictures. Finally getting the feel for this Nikon P5100 camera.
Difficulty - Easy
Trip Directions - Just did a shoreline paddle along the Dix Branch section of the lake. Head up the feeder creek for a bit and then back and stopped at County Line State Park. Much larger park than Kimball Point. It looked like the non-electric sites were open, but no one was camping.
Hazards - None.
