Kerr Lake - Longwood Park III Trip
Put In - Take Hwy 15 S from Clarksville, VA, approximately 5 miles and entrance will be on the right. Follow signs. From Raleigh, Longwood Park is a nice drive up Highway 50 to Creedmoor and then take 15 north through Oxford. The park is on your left after entering Virginia. This is the latest I have ever gone camping in the fall. Gets dark early but it turned out very nice. I also learned that I could read in the car and not freeze to death, not sure why I never thought of this before.
Distance/Time - 3 trips, trip 1 to the BSA Camp, 4.4 miles, 2nd trip - 2.2 miles at night, 3rd a morning trip towards Grassy Creek, 5.6 miles.
Difficulty - Above Average, because of the wind. Always windy in this area.
Trip Directions - I took it easy on all the trips and actually decided to keep the mileage down. The dog is having trouble standing for a long period of time and has to basically crash on my lap after a while. Just old age and I can relate. So shorter trips helps her have a better time. The first trip was to the BSA Camp which is always fun. The next was at night and the final trip in the morning was towards the Grassy Creek area.
Scenery - Nice fall weather, very small number of campers and RV folks. Definitely the end of the camping season, to bad as I did not get out much. Used my new 900 lumen LED light at night and that was fun. Was able to actually cause the street lights in the camp to turn off because it is so bright. Not sure what the campers all thought.
Hazards - Wind.
