Put In - Located at the Lake Wheeler main visitor center at the bottom of the hill on the right. Nice sandy beach area to the left of the docks closest to the center. There is a 4 dollar fee to launch your boat, payable at the center.
Distance/Time - 8 miles/5 hours
Difficulty - Easy
Trip Directions - From the put in, head right towards the bridge in the distance. A very low water area exists after the bridge, had to get out and walk part of the way. Some people use the sandbar for a stopping point for swimming and such.
Scenery - Ranges from swamp type vegetation to open water with boats of all kinds. Nice homes surround the lake. Also, all kind of birds are found, from Blue Heron to ducks and geese. The end of the lake you can follow a stream for a bit, but then are blocked by a beaver dam. The park has a nice picnic area and playground. Also, a fishing pond is below the lake, no boating allowed. Jet skis have also been banded from Lake Wheeler at this time.
