Put In - The boat ramp is located near Mayo Park and is located off Hwy. 49 north of Roxboro on Neal's Store Road (SR 1515).
Distance/Time - 14.4 miles/5 1/2 hours
Difficulty - Average.
Trip Directions - I headed north from the boat ramp towards Progress Energy's coal powered power plant. A very nice paddle on a beautiful calm day, cold to start. The dog was even shivering. The day warmed up nicely and I decided to just explore the east side of the lake. Ended up being quite a long trip because of all the coves. Did run into a young man who took the family boat out for a spin and ran out of gas. He was paddling slowly to short where someone was bringing him gas.
Scenery - The lake is very pristine and so clear you can see the bottom in most shallow places. Here is a lake with basically no development runoff, so the water is very clear. Also, the bottom seems to be mostly shale type rock instead of mud. I saw two eagles, a beaver, and various ducks.
Hazards - None.
